Statumanoids, 2025
Statumanoids gives a representation of youth in a visual hybridization between sculpture and human representation. The characters oscillate between the appearance of statues and that of young humans, whose features mix zombie and humanoid appearances. The title resulting from the contraction between “statue” and “humanoid”, underlines this double appearance.
The characters' outfits combine elements of the Baroque, bringing a theatrical atmosphere close to the Comédie dell'arte. while being recontextualized by modern streetwear influences, characteristic of the urban space. Weaving together historical remnants and contemporary currents in the evoked fashions, this interplay of influences gives rise to scenes that are both melancholic and burlesque. The scenes are inspired by academic codes while integrating a more contemporary dimension, close to fashion photography.
This series questions generational transformations through composite, fragile and ambivalent figures, where the question of identity and bodily transformation seems at the heart of each image. Bodies are both frozen objects of study and simulacra of generations in continual mutation.
The generative tool allows to explore unusual arrangements in the materiality of the bodies represented. By drawing on vast and heterogeneous data sets, it combines opposing and unusual references, reinterpreting sculptural forms and body textures in a game of improvisation. This ability to recombine disparate elements produces simulations of human appearances where the boundaries between the organic, the mineral and the digital become fusional, thus questioning the plasticity of bodies and the way we perceive them in the era of the generative image.
